Exploring the Different Bowling Variations

BOWLING VARIATIONS: Petanque

OVERVIEW

Petanque is a game in the same family as Lawn Bowling and Bocce, and is played in France and neighboring areas.  Petanque is a team game and the object is to get your ball closest to the ‘target ball’, much like in Bocce.  The main difference between Petanque and is relations in the small ball bowling variations is that the balls are lofted rather than rolled, and with a backspin motion, which is to minimize the forward roll of the ball when it lands.  Petanque is widely followed in tournament play and has its own version of a ‘World Cup’ type of event.
