Canada's Brian 'House' Whalen |
Canada’s Brian Whalen, known fondly as “House” by his duckpinning buddies, made history to start 2012 as he became the first male native fivepinner to win a duckpin event in the United States. Whalen partici-pated in, and won, the annual New Year’s weekend event held at Walkersville Lanes in Walkersville, Maryland. Brian took home $300.00 in the ground-breaking event for Canada’s small ball bowling community, rolling a fabulous 472 set, and when combined with his 67 pins handicap, he earned the winning score of 539 for the tournament. Finishing second was Mt. Airy, Maryland’s Jeremy Ruthvin, who shot a 495 set with 40 handicap for a 535 total. Third place went to Virginia’s Jake Edwards, after a 438 set with 74 handicap for a 512 score.
