Jason Smith Wins his 2nd Star at Parkville
Riding a weekend wave of excellence, Rhode Island's Jason Smith captured his 2nd DPBA tour win with a dominant overall performance at Parkville Lanes in the Baltimore area on the weekend of July 8th-10th, 2011. Smith was superb the entire weekend.
Mike Steinert dominated the headlines in the preliminary round, opening his 8-game block with a 205 game, leading to the high qualifying score of 1289.
During the Sunday semi-finals, all 5 division winners and the wildcard (Eddie Dix) went 4-1. The only 4-1 record that didn't make the stepladder finals was Baltimore's Joe Franchetti.
Despite superior pinfall efforts by Chris Ashworth (Waldorf) and Peter Brown (Canada), who both shot 800 and 801, respectively, it was Jason Smith who basically lapped the field with a tremendous 852 score to earn the top seeding.
In the opening match, wildcard Eddie Dix defeated Hagerstown champion, Kenny Herrell, 142-138. Next in line was Don Dove, who was in search of his 18th pro tour win. Dove came out firing and charged all the way to the finish line, 191-124 against Dix. Don then squared off against Chris Ashworth. In a lower scoring affair, Dove won 137-119. Then Dove took on the waiting, Pete Brown. Brown was dogged in his fight against the multi-tour winner, and prevailed with a solid game of 135 to Dove's 124. Then Brown made his bid at being the first Canadian to win a tour on the DPBA, but would face stiff competition in Jason Smith on this day. Jason was equal to his pace from earlier in the day, and continued his impressive bowling, triumphing in the end, 161-125 for the tour victory and $2,200.00.
