News from Jane Atwood's Virginia Ladies All-Star Tour

The Virginia Ladies Pro Tour made its rounds earlier this summer as part of its monthly touring schedule at Plaza Bowl in Richmond, and T-Bowl Lanes in Shenandoah, VA. Fine performances and good all-around competition made for a pair of exciting weekends at the respective bowling centers

Through the tireless efforts of one of the entire sport of bowling's most unselfish players and organizers, Jane Atwood runs the tour and has kept it running and flourishing for quite some time. Prior to the year 2000, the Virginia ladies tour had a number of memorable events, and it was during the Virginia Ladies All-Star events that Kendra Allen (now Kendra Boswell) got her start and was groomed for competition on the women's national tour.

Not many people hear much about the Virginia Ladies Tour these days, but it's still there—not even losing a step, and still providing a monthly diversion of good spirited competition on a professional level.

At Plaza Bowl on the weekend of June 25th and 26th, Sharon Hardee parlayed a 'high qualifier' performance on the opening day, with a 3-match ascent up the stepladder to capture the coveted crown, and a $450.00 first place check. Finishing as runner-up was Niki Reid for $250.00, followed by Barbara Turner in 3rd place ($150.00), and Melissa Miller in 4th ($100.00).

A month later on the weekend of July 23-24, the Virginia lady pros graced the T-Bowl center in Shenandoah. Opening with a stellar performance in the qualifying round was Lynette Narciso, taking top honors on Saturday. But on Sunday, the spotlight was on Pat Lane, who duked it out with Dana Smith in the final. Lane won with a hard fought 7-pin victory for the $450.00 grand prize. Smith settled with the $250.00 check for 2nd place, and in the 3rd spot for the weekend was Angie Miller ($150.00). Nancy Heislup rounded out the ladder contestants in 4th position for $100.00.
